Frank Pizzo – Program Director

Frank Pizzo runs Pleon's summer programs and is also head sailing coach at Bowdoin College. Prior to earning the head job in 2008, Coach Pizzo served as an assistant coach for Bowdoin and was head sailing coach at Columbia University. Pizzo is an active Interclub, V-15 and small keelboat racer and competed in two Newport-to-Bermuda Offshore Races. A native of Wilton, Connecticut, Pizzo graduated from Bowdoin in May of 2006.

Chloe Brown – Commodore

This will be Chloe's sixth year at Pleon Yacht Club, and her second as Commodore. She has worked at Pleon as a junior Instructor and served as Rear Commodore before being elected Commodore. Chloe is a Laser sailor and has spent four summers on the Laser Race team. She just completed her freshman year at Hobart and William Smith and is excited to get to know
all of the new PYC sailors, and continuing make Pleon be the best it can be!

Emily Croteau

Emily is from Winchester, MA and a rising senior at Boston University's School of Education. Emily has sailed as a skipper and a crew on the BU Sailing Team and was honored with a First-Team All NEISA Crew title. She grew up sailing at the Winchester Boat Club and for Winchester High School where she was captain her junior and senior years. Emily also sailed at Pleon on the Laser and 420 Race Teams and enjoyed being a JI for two years. This is Emily's third year as a Pleon coach and she's looking forward to another great summer in Marblehead!

Jack Famiglietti

Jack is a senior at the University of Florida studying mechanical engineering. Jack has been a skipper for the UF team for four years, while actively competing in the J70 fleet and performance catamaran fleets. He is from Sarasota, Florida and grew up sailing at the Sarasota Youth Sailing Program in Optis, 420s and Lasers. Jack coached 420s at the Edgartown Yacht Club on Martha's Vineyard for several summers before working several internships, and is now looking forward to his first summer at Pleon!

Alex Myers

Alex was born and raised in Marblehead, and since both of his parents grew up sailing, he jokes that he didn't have much choice in the matter. He grew to love the sport, learning to sail at the EYC Junior Sailing program and Pleon before becoming an instructor himself. Summer 2018 will be his 8th coaching sailing, but his first at Pleon after working at both EYC and CYC. After he finishes his junior year studying abroad in England, Alex will be a rising senior at the University of South Carolina, staying active in competitive sailing on the Club team there and any keelboats he can find, mostly J/70s in the local Marblehead fleet. He's excited to share his passion and knowledge for the sport in his last summer before graduating, one that should be full of great sailing at Pleon and in Marblehead, leading up to the J/70 Worlds here in September.

Lea Russell

Lea is excited to return to Pleon for a second summer. She is a rising second year student in the College of Medicine at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She grew up racing Optis for the San Francisco Yacht Club Junior Racing Team. She then sailed on the Newport Harbor High School Sailing Team and raced C420s out of Balboa Yacht Club in Corona del Mar, CA. She has sailed in many C420 regattas at the national level. She coached Opti 1 at Pleon last summer and had a blast. Before that, she spent three years coaching Naples Sabots in southern California, one summer coaching Optis and X-boats in Wisconsin, and one summer coaching Optis and C420s in Charleston. She also has two summers of junior instructor experience at San Francisco Yacht Club. When she's not studying medicine or sailing, she loves running, cooking, and hitting the beach.

Peyton Russell

Peyton is excited to coach at Pleon for the first time this summer. He is a rising junior at the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC., and is a pre-med and majoring in Biology and Spanish. He grew up sailing on the San Francisco Yacht Club Optimist Race Team. He also raced C420s and CFJs for the Balboa Yacht Club Race Team during high school. At the same time, he was a member of the Newport Harbor High School sailing team where he was a varsity crew. This will be his fifth year coaching sailing. For the past two summers, he served as co-director of the Blackbeard Sailing Club in New Bern, NC alongside his brother Wyatt. During the past two academic years, he has coached Optimists and Open Bics at Carolina Yacht Club in Charleston. Prior to that, he coached Naples Sabots and C420s at Balboa Yacht Club. Off the water, he enjoys fishing, watching ER trauma TV shows, and eating any kind of Mexican food.

Wyatt Russell

Wyatt is looking forward to his first summer of coaching at Pleon. Next fall, he will start his junior year as a pre-law student majoring in physics and political science and minoring in
Spanish at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. This is going to be his fifth summer coaching sailing. The last two summers he was co-director of Blackbeard Sailing Club with his brother in New Bern, NC and coached Optis and Topazes. Before that, he coached Naples Sabots and C420's at Balboa Yacht Club where he was also an avid keelboat and C420 racer. He also sailed for the Newport Harbor High School Varsity Sailing Team. He grew up racing Optis for the San Francisco Yacht Club Race Team. Outside of sailing, he is passionate about non-profit work and loves fishing and being outdoors.

Reid Shanabrook

Reid Shanabrook is a rising sophomore at Virginia Tech where he races on the sailing team. At Virginia Tech he enjoys studying engineering, skiing on the alpine ski team and biking. He grew up sailing in Marblehead and went through junior sailing at Pleon. Reid enjoys racing offshore in the summer and getting out on the water as much as possible. Reid is excited to come back to Pleon to begin coaching this summer.

Kelly Stannard

Kelly is a Roger Williams University Alumni, a team race enthusiast and lifetime sailor. While at RWU Kelly was two-time team captain, a three-time All-American, three-time All-New England crew, helped the team secure the 2011 Team Race Nationals win, and played a key role in placing 2nd at the 2012 College Fleet Race Nationals. Before college she competed at Youth Champs and won the US Jr. Women's Nationals as a crew in 2006. She grew up sailing in Niantic, CT and now lives in Salem, MA with her husband. In 2017 she was named to the RWU Athletic
Hall of Fame. This spring she was the Marblehead High School Varsity Coach. It is her first year at Pleon and she is looking forward to an excellent and successful summer.
