Junior Sailing Since 1887

Dear Pleon Friend,

This spring Pleon opened the club house doors in April, inviting high school sailors from New England to participate in 8 weekly Sunday clinics coached by Spencer Powers, former BC sailor and sister Liz Powers, former Harvard sailor.  This program attracted sailors from the local Marblehead High School team, the Pingree School, Manchester, Needham, Berwick Academy, West Dennis, and others.

The Pleon summer program started on Friday, June 30 with full classes in almost every class.    We then quickly celebrated the adult version of Pleon's traditional "Great Day" as more than 200 friends, parent and alum gathered for the first "Great Night".  The event was a huge success and brought together old friends, and new families, to participate in some spirited games and fund raising.

As summer progressed, Pleon sailors traveled far and wide to many local and national regattas.  Some placing high among tough competition and conditions, while others improved their skills.  In August, Pleon said goodbye to many sailors who went on to join other Pleon alumni who sail for their college teams.

Sailors enjoyed their third summer in the new club house.  Thanks to many generous donors, the new club house has been successfully paid off.  If you contributed already thank you!  We are working with contractors to complete a plaque which will recognize all of the generous people who made this possible.

Looking ahead, Pleon relies on the continued support of its Sustaining Members.  Program fees cover only  a portion of the expenses incurred in running the program.  We appreciate your response to our previous requests and would be very grateful for your continued support. Your tax-deductible contribution ensures that young sailors from around the North Shore will be nurtured, coached and encouraged to take the lessons learned on the water and use them throughout their lives. Pleon appreciates support at any level!

Please send your checks to Pleon Yacht Club, PO Box 160, Marblehead, MA, 01945 or go onto our website: www.pleon.org and click on the "alumni and parents" tab.
