Regattas and Free Sail
July 2, 2012

Dear Pleon Parents and Sailors,

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! Monday is off to a great start and the week is looking warm, sunny and full of fun! For Photo updates, tune into our Facebook page, as we upload photos frequently!

I wanted to remind everyone that this week we have two Opti regattas.

TomorrowJuly 3rd is the Manchester Green Fleet Regatta for Opti 1 sailors at Manchester Sailing Association. I believe we have heard from everyone who is signed up, but if you are still unclear on regatta protocol PLEASE send me an email at erin.pierce@pleon.org. Below are the NORs and registration forms for the regatta,

On Friday July 6th Sandy Bay Yacht Club in Rockport is hosting the Linda Wieditz Regatta for Opti 1 and 2 sailors. Below are the NORs and medical forms for the regatta,

Again, if there is any confusion regarding these two events, please email Erin or look at the proper race protocol and contacts at the urls provided, http://www.pleon.org/page/7882/  http://www.pleon.org/page/sailing/regattas

Next, I would like to clarify the timing and function of Sunday morning Free Sail. We host Free Sail most Sundays from 9AM to noon as noted on the Pleon calendar on the website. Free Sail is open to Pleon sailors and parents only, so please do not bring friends unaffiliated with the club. We encourage parents to participate in Free Sail as we have such a strict Mommy Gate rule during the week! This is your chance to sail with your kids or observe what they have learned. Between 9 and noon, the club will be open and Junior Instructors will be here to help with equipment, rigging and launching. I would like to stress that this means that Free Sail starts at 9 and kids should be in and de-rigged by noon. Please make sure that this time frame is not violated as we have scheduled for 9-12 and could have other things happening after 12. The Junior Instructors are here to help rig, launch and provide equipment, but are not meant to be out in chase boats coaching or babysitting your kids. I would recommend parent supervision especially for the younger kids. We have had issues the past two weeks with kids sailing too far. I ask that when kids go out sailing they stay either in the harbor, or between Peaches Point, Children's Island and Marblehead Rock. Again, know that the Junior Instructors will not be out in motor boats, so please understand that letting your kids sail outside the harbor means they are unsupervised. Lastly, Junior Instructors will help rig and de-rig, but boats left without being de-rigged and/or hauled out of the water is unacceptable. I think it is important that this is clear early in the season so that Free Sail runs smoothly for the rest of the summer! I will post these guidelines on the front door of the club in case there is any confusion. Please email Erin if you have any more questions regarding Free Sail!

Thank you!

Erin Pierce
