NEXT WEEK AT PLEON-

The Calendar is up, but you may have questions about the following events:

1.      Whats the Carlton trophy?

Well...;

" The Carlton Trophy is regarded as the single handed sailing championship of Pleon. It is conducted on the same basis as a tennis tournament. Match races are sailed between paired-off contestants. The event has no age limit, and it is open to anyone who can distinguish the bow from the stern of a sailboat. No crews are allowed."

The race is conducted off of Pleon dock, and anyone is welcome! Feel free to bring food/ family down and enjoy the night with us !

  1. 24 Hr Sail-a-thon.. huh?

So here's the deal...;

This year marks our third annual 24 hour sail a thon. The 420 Race Team will meet at 9am Wednesday morning, and sail all day.  Around 5pm or so, some kids will come off the water and we'll start filling in "shifts" so that at least two 420s will be on the water all night until 9am Thursday morning.  Kids participating are asked to find people to sponsor them for each hour they sail.  All proceeds go to funding for the new clubhouse.  Participants are allowed to spend the night at Pleon, with parent permission. Coaches will be on the water during the night with the kids and in the clubhouse to chaperone. If you have any questions about how you can help, sponsor one of or sailors, or need clarification feel free to email me ! It should be a great event !

  1. What's happening on Thursday? Bags? For what? Huh?

Okay.. Junior Olympics. Monday the 9th and Tuesday the 10th.  It's up to us to make sure the registration bags are all set for the regatta. That is, filling all 200-or-so bags with stickers, sailing instructions, posters, and other goodies.  I'm looking for a bunch of Pleon members to help with this. If this is something you're interested in please let me know! The more people we have, the easier it will be !

PLEASE NOTE - REGULAR REGISTRATION ENDS TODAY 7/30 AT MIDNIGHT.
FROM TOMORROW ON THERE WILL BE A $15 LATE FEE (PER SAILOR) FOR ALL REGISTRANTS:
$100 p/single hand
$170 p/double hand

Registration is all online...; http://www.pleon.org/page/regattas/2010jo. Do it up!

A little warning about JOs- This regatta is going to be especially crazy because all Pleon classes are still meeting. We ask for your patience and understanding the Monday/ Tuesday that the regatta is happening. Kids in both morning and afternoon classes will be asked to help with the event in some way.  This is a great opportunity for all Pleon members to help their club and see how a regatta is run.

If you are chartering a boat for JOs, or any regatta for that matter, make sure you see Brad ASAP to get a boat! Just because you use one from Pleon every day does not guarantee you have one for every regatta !  If you need to email Brad, you can contact him at Bradford.carpenter@gmail.com.

Hmm what else do I have to say...;

OH headsup for the annual banquet.. we're doing things a little bit differently this year. As of now, it's still at Marblehead High School, but we will not be doing a huge potluck dinner with it. Just a simple awards ceremony and cake at the end!  We'll let you know of any change in location or arrangement.

Also keep checking the website for updated photos.. they're looking good!

That includes photos from Race Week. Blake Jackson took some awesome shots...; be sure to see what's on the site now, and there will be more to come. Final results from MJRW are also posted.. check em out ! Pleon did great...; as usual :)

IThat being said, I'd also just like to congratulate ALL of our racers who have been doing AWESOME work at the regattas. You guys have made us so proud, and are totally keepin up the Pleon rep.. nice work! Good luck to everyone in Hyannis this weekend!

A special shout out to Gram Slattery and Brian Drumm for winning the Falmouth Regatta and qualifying for the Bemis Championship. They're headed to CA mid August. Wooo woooot !

That's it for now...; hope everyone has an awesome weekend! As always, feel free to email me with any questions or concerns.

Thanks for another great week!

Your Commodore,

Grace Quigley
