Reflecting on Pleon 2020
November 12, 2020
As we close Pleon down for the season, we want to take a minute to reflect and thank the entire Pleon community for making this year possible under extraordinary circumstances.
Overcoming many challenges, Pleon 2020 had 120 sailors on the water this summer. Kids who had missed so much when the pandemic hit were able to raise sails, push off the dock and experience a semblance of freedom and normalcy. We also pulled off Marblehead Junior Race Week, against all odds, and with the help of local officials, businesses, Corinthian YC, Eastern YC, Manchester YC, Sail Salem, and tirelessly determined volunteers.
Summer enthusiasm carried into September and October as Pleon's fall program was fully subscribed nearly every weekend. A huge shout out to all the Fall sailors, parents and staff who volunteered their time on the last day to get the club buttoned up for winter.
We also want to give special thanks to the Eastern Yacht Club. The Eastern's leadership, waterfront staff and clubhouse management partnered with Pleon on joint safety measures and general operational support. We are truly grateful to them as well as the Eastern Yacht Club membership.
To our outstanding group of coaches and our program director, Kieran O'Connell, – there are no words. Your professionalism, dedication and all-around positivity were incredible.
To our donors, Pleon is not possible without your support. We were able to weather 2020's financial stresses because of your generosity and we couldn't be more grateful.
And, last, but not least – thank you to all the Pleon sailors and parents. Your flexibility, enthusiasm, personal responsibility and concern for the safety of others made this season a success.
Planning for Pleon 2021 has already begun. We can't wait to see you next year!
