Week 5.5 Update
July 28, 2019
Even though there was no program this week, there was still plenty of action at Pleon, and I wanted to catch you up on it and give a few reminders for next week.
On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, Pleon played host for Marblehead Junior Race Week, where 230 sailors sailed Optis, Lasers, and 420s. Despite too much wind on Tuesday and barely enough on the other days, we managed to get a regatta off, and Pleon kids did super well! While there are too many kids to name, we swept Opti Green, won Opti Champ and Lasers, and had multiple kids in the top 10 of 420 champ and green. Well done to all of our sailors!!! Additionally, Niall Kearney qualified for the Smythe National Championship later this Summer in San Francisco.
At the same time, we sent nine 420s down to Newport for Nationals, where low wind meant limited sailing but still tons of fun for Pleon sailors!!
The regattas didn't stop, though, as many of our older kids also chose to sail in adult race week. Mason Cheney, Ashley and Courtney Hoguet, and most of our coaching staff sailed in the event, with Mason finishing an impressive 5th in the laser fleet and Ashley skippering her dad's Rhodes 19 to 18th. We also had Pleon alumni throughout the classes, all of whom had great success!
Tomorrow we're back at Pleon, so here are a few reminders:
2nd Session, including Intro to Pleon, starts tomorrow!
Just because you aren't doing 2nd session doesn't mean that you can't come to the many upcoming social events in the last three weeks!!!
Sailor's ball will be this coming Wednesday, July 31st. Sailors ball is for kids 12 and under who can't go to commies; pizza, freeze pops, dancing, and games should keep your sailors entertained from 6-8. Tickets are $10 a piece (to cover the pizza) and will be sold at the gate Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings during drop-off and pick-up. Tickets are required.
See all of your sailors tomorrow!!
