Fall Sailing Update
September 11, 2014

Pleon Sailors and Families,

Week 1 of the fall sailing program saw a great number of sailors on the water in fantastic and varied sailing conditions. The first day of our program brought us sunshine and a dying northerly that luckily shifted to the east and picked up to around ten knows by mid afternoon. The opti sailors worked on setting up our boats properly and the basics of speed. It is important to remember the 3 most important factors when determining speed will be sail trim(including set up), weight placement(in/out and forward/aft) and steering(always to the tell tales). We also started to refine our boat handling and eliminate excessive use of the rudder. The 420 sailors were able to do some course work on Sunday and on Tuesday we worked on speed. It is important for those sailors coming on weekdays to come to practice, rig and get dressed as soon as possible to maximize time on the water.

This weekend we only have practice on Saturday(9/13)! I(parker) will be working with the 420 sailors since 420 Head Coach Alex Cook will not be at practice. Guest coach Alex Levin will be working along with Clark coaching the opti class. The forecast is calling for breeze out of the east in the low-mid teens and a slight chance of rain in the afternoon-- Please be prepared with all the appropriate sailing equipment to stay warm!

See you all on the water!

Brant Beach Yacht Club in New Jersey is hosting the Atlantic Coast Championship(Team Trials Qualifier) on October 11th and 12th. Pleon would like to support this regatta with coaching if we have enough sailors who are interested in making the trip! Please let me know if you have an interest or any questions. Regatta info can be found by going to and looking under the Regional Events link on the left side of the page. This is a highly competitive event and one of the best regattas of the fall!
