Pleon Newsletter Week 1
June 27, 2014

Hey Pleon,

2014 Handbook is live! It includes the expectations for each class, coach bios, and Pleon rules.  Find it at http://www.pleon.org/uploaded_files/2014_pleon_parent_handbook.pdf.

The first week of Pleon went by beautifully. We had classes on the water every day of the week! After ice-breakers, name games, and the swim test on Monday, instructors jumped right into the sailing. The Opti and 420 classes got on the water all week and instructors got a feel for the new classes. Opti and 420 classes also had some fun with the capsize test. The Laser classes have been pushed physically while sailing long upwinds and downwinds in windy conditions, and doing physical testing back at Pleon. See our latest Facebook video if you're curious! Keelboat also killed it this week, putting to use our three Sonars which the sailors are in the process of naming. The set of three names is going to be one of: Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato; Hawk, Eagle, Falcon; or Mario, Bowser, Peach. We've also got a pretty sweet MJRW T-shirt coming your way, designed by 420 sailor Peter Lynn.

Looking ahead to next week, we've got some events planned:
Sunday the 29th- Free Sail. Members and parents can come to the club from 9am-12pm and rig up any boat they'd like!
Monday the 30th- Manchester Opti Green Fleet Regatta. Designed for first time regatta sailors. Info at http://www.manchestersailing.org/page/racing/2014_green_fleet_regatta.
Tuesday the 1st- ROCKSTAR DAY!! Sailors in the morning (9-12) should come to Pleon dressed and ready to rock out in a costume and air guitar competition.
Wednesday the 2nd- First Wednesday Series for the afternoon racing classes. BBQ at Pleon immediately following racing.

Friday the 4th!!!- NO PLEON CLASSES HAPPY 4th
Saturday the 5th- Red Sky Night!!! http://www.pleon.org/page/8746

Please remember to label everything you bring to Pleon. Last but not least, good luck to our 420 sailors headed to 420 New England's this weekend! Pleon representing big time!!
