NOTICE OF RACE
Marblehead Junior Race Week
July 20-22, 2009
The organizing authority is the Pleon Yacht Club, in conjunction with the Boston, Corinthian and Eastern Yacht Clubs
1. Rules
The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-20012 (RRS), this Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions.
2. Changes to the Racing Rules
RRS 40 (Personal Buoyancy) will be changed by adding: "Competitors must wear a Coast Guard approved PFD at all times when on the water."
3. Eligibility
All competitors must be under age 22, defined as not having their 22nd birthday until after December 31, 2009.
4. Classes
4.1 Club 420, 420 Green Fleet, Laser, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7, and Optimist (Red, White, Blue and Green fleets). Additional fleets may be added at the discretion of the OA.
4.2 The minimum number of entries for any class to receive a start is four (4) boats.
4.3 The maximum number of boats registered for Opti Green and 420 Championship fleets shall not exceed 60 boats per fleet.
4.4 On July 15, competitors in classes that do not have four or more entrants will be notified that their start is canceled, and a full refund of all fees paid will be made to competitors.
5. Fees
5.1 For all single-handed boats: $100. For all double-handed boats: $200. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided daily (no dinner on July 22) Regatta T-shirt(s) included.
5.2 A $30 early registration discount (per sailor) is applicable for entries received by Friday, July 10th.
5.3 A $50 late fee (per sailor) will be charged for entries that register at Check-In on July 19th.
5.3 There will be no refunds.
6. Racing Schedule
Racing each day, July 20, 21, and 22. Harbor Start Monday, July 20, at 12:00, following the skipper's meeting. On subsequent days, the Harbor Start gun will not be sounded before 10:30am. Multiple races planned each day.
7. Entry Deadlines
7.1 All entries must complete the:
Ø Registration Form,
Ø the Medical Consent and Waiver of Liability form, and
Ø the Code of Conduct form.
On line registration is available until Friday, July 17th. Registrations will be accepted in person from 4pm to 7pm at the Check-In desk on Sunday, July 19th.
8. Registration and Check-In
8.1 Registration deadline is 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 19th. There will be absolutely, no exceptions.
8.2 Check in will be at the Pleon Yacht Club on Sunday, July 19 from 4-7pm and from 8:30-9:30am on Monday, July 20.
8.3 All competitors must check in to be scored.
8.4 ABSOLUTELY NO BOATS may be dropped off before 3 pm on Sunday, July 19.
9. Housing:
9.1 Limited housing is available on a first come first served basis. Requests for housing must be made by July 10th and must include a completed Registration Packet including registration fee. Participants with incomplete Registration Packets will not be eligible. For housing information, contact Tracey Myers, 781-631-2155 or at traceymyers@comcast.net.
9.2 For a list of local Inns and B&B's visit, www.visitmarblehead.com. Pleon cannot provide housing for parents.
10. Skipper's Meeting
The skipper's meeting will be held at 11:00am on Monday, July 20, under the tent.
11. Prizes
Regatta awards will be determined by the size of each fleet.
12. Sailing Instructions
Sailing instructions will be available at check-in.
13. Courses
Courses will be described in the sailing instructions.
14. Scoring
14.1 The Low -Point System will apply.
14.2 Three races shall constitute a regatta.
14.3 If five or more races are completed a boat may exclude her worst score.
14.4 Special scoring may apply to championships.
