Dear Pleon Families and Friends,
Sunday September 21st we had a bitter sweet good bye party for the old green clubhouse. I regret that some were unable to attend however we still had a crowd of about two hundred who bid a fond farewell. There were more than a few tears in saying goodbye to the building but it is quite apparent Pleon could not be more ready for a new home after 55 years. Let us remember that the building may be leaving us, but our wonderful Pleon memories will always remain with us.
Last year, we set an ambitious goal to try to raise enough funds to be able to construct the new home this fall rather than have a more lengthy fund raising and wait until 2010. Happily, the wonderful support we have received to date has given us the opportunity to meet our accelerated schedule, albeit with the need over the next few months to complete our funding needs.
We have encountered some unexpected but necessary expenses for some materials, disability access and fire safety that have raised our target, however we have raised $540,000 of the approximately $650,000 we will need to build the building.
Thanks to all of you who have so generously given or pledged to date, we are getting closer to our goal. Please tell others of our remaining needs so hopefully we may "close the book" by year end.
We appreciate your support and are looking forward to the ribbon cutting of our new clubhouse next May.
Fondly,
Liz Blodgett Smith, Chair of Capital Campaign
Grace Quigley, Commodore
