Kieran O'Connell grew up in Gloucester, Massachusetts where he learned to sail and race at the Eastern Point Yacht Club. Developing a passion for teaching and coaching sailing Kieran has been the Program Director at Eastern Point Yacht Club, Annisquam Yacht Club, and currently lives in Christchurch, Virginia. During the school year, Kieran is the Waterfront & Sailing Director at Christchurch School. Over the past several years Kieran has traveled extensively with the Christchurch team competing in High School regattas as well as C420 events around the country. The C420 team won back to back Triple Crown Titles and back to back CJ Buckley Youth Team Racing National Championships. Kieran's highlight of coaching the Christchurch team came in the Spring of 2019 capping the season off winning the Baker Team Racing National Title.


Phil is a rising senior at the Governor's Academy. He has sailed at Pleon for 10 years; spending three years on the Opti race team, and three years on the 420 Race Team. Phil also spent two years working as a junior instructor at Pleon. Outside of Pleon, Phil spent two years on the Landmark High School Sailing Team, and was captain his sophomore year. He ended his youth sailing career with a third place finish at the CORK regatta in Kingston, Ontario. Off the water, Phil loves to play hockey and ski. Phil is excited for his time as commodore, and is looking forward to the summer!


Annabelle is a rising junior at Georgetown University, studying Economics and Physics. She is an All-American crew on the Georgetown sailing team, where she races on the coed fleet, team, and match race teams. This past season, she and her team placed 2nd at collegiate Match Race Nationals, 2nd in the MAISA conference championship, and 2nd at the fall inter-conference showcase finals in division A. Annabelle is from Marblehead and grew up sailing Optis, 420s, and Lasers at Pleon. This will be Annabelle's second summer coaching at Pleon, and she is excited to be back and share her love of Pleon and sailing with the young sailors.

Emily is back coaching at Pleon after serving as interim program director last summer. A Boston University School of Education graduate from Winchester, MA, Emily sailed as a skipper and a crew on the BU Sailing Team and was honored with a First-Team All Neisa Crew her junior year. She grew up sailing at the Winchester Boat Club and for Winchester High School where she was captain her junior and senior years. Emily also sailed at Pleon on the Laser and 420 Race Teams and enjoyed being a JI for two years. This is Emily's forth year as a Pleon coach and she's looking forward to another great summer in Marblehead!


Connor is a student at the University of Michigan. He grew up sailing Optis and Scows in West Michigan and was a coach at the Grand Rapids Yacht Club for six years. In high school, Connor sailed for East Grand Rapids and was the team captain his senior year. He now is the team captain for the University of Michigan. Connor is an avid dinghy sailor, spending most of his time in Lasers, 420's and FJs, but also enjoys sailing offshore boats and J/70s. He is looking forward to his second summer at Pleon.


Ryan is a rising sophomore at the University of Vermont where he is working towards a degree in business administration with a minor in computer science, while also competing on the UVM sailing team primarily as a skipper. He sailed at Pleon for 10 years, racing on the 420 Race Team for three summers and working as a junior instructor for two. Ryan attended Marblehead High School and raced on the MHS Sailing Team, helping to win the Mass. State Championship his junior year. Last summer he worked across the harbor as a sailing instructor at the Boston Yacht Club. Outside of the sailing season, Ryan is an avid skier and snatches up any opportunity he can get to ski. Ryan is excited to make his return to Pleon, this time as an instructor, and is looking forward to a great summer!


Peyton just graduated from the College of Charleston, has been sailing for more than 13 years, and is very excited to return to Pleon for another summer! This will be his seventh year coaching and his third at Pleon. Before Pleon, Peyton coached sailors in both of the Carolinas as well as in his home state of California. He has raced Optis, CFJs, 420s and keelboats at the national level. Before moving from California, Peyton aided his high school in its second-place finish at College Nationals as the varsity heavy crew. In the fall, Peyton will be starting his first year of medical school at MUSC in Charleston, SC. In his free time, he enjoys sailing J22s in Charleston Harbor, reading on the beach, fishing, eating burritos, and playing with his family's new puppy. Peyton is looking forward to another great summer at Pleon!


Wyatt is looking forward to his third year coaching at Pleon. He recently graduated North Carolina State University in Raleigh majoring in physics and political science with a minor in Spanish. He is a rising first year student at American University's graduate School of Public Affairs in D.C., studying public administration. This will be his seventh summer coaching sailing. Before coaching Opti 2 and 3 at Pleon, he was a co-director of Blackbeard Sailing Club in New Bern, NC, with his brother, Peyton, coaching Optis and Topazes. Before that, he coached Naples Sabots and C420s at Balboa Yacht Club where he was also an avid keelboat and C420 racer. Wyatt sailed for the Newport Harbor High School Varsity Sailing Team and grew up racing Optis on the San Francisco Yacht Club Race Team (breeze on!). Outside of sailing, Wyatt is passionate about non-profit work and loves woodworking and being outdoors.


Reid is an undergrad at Virginia Tech where he races on the sailing team, skippering on FJs and 420s. At Virginia Tech, he recently changed majors to Animal Science and is on the pre-vet track. In Blacksburg, he enjoys skiing on the alpine ski team, and biking. He grew up sailing in Marblehead and went through junior sailing at Pleon in Optis, C420s and Lasers. Reid enjoys racing offshore in the summer and getting out on the water as much as possible. This is his third year coaching at Pleon and he is excited to be back.


Hunter is a senior studying physics at the College of Charleston. He spent most of his childhood in Rochester, New York before moving to El Lago, Texas for his junior and senior years of high school. He started racing in Lasers before moving to the Club 420 and International 420. He was the third-place American boat in the open fleet at the 2016 420 Worlds and the 2017 Open Europeans. When not racing the International 420, Hunter raced with his high school team which won the 2015 Keelboat Invitational as well as the 2016 High School Fleet Racing Nationals. In college, he has been actively competing on the dinghy team.


Emmet is an assistant sailing coach at Tufts University and is returning for his second summer coaching at Pleon. A graduate of Yale, Emmet has years of coaching experience in both interscholastic and collegiate-level sailing. Before coaching at Tufts, he was a varsity coach at Branford High School and a head coach at Wesleyan University. An accomplished competitor, Emmet had four consecutive podium finishes at the US Sailing Hinman National Team Race Championship, two consecutive wins at the prestigious Wilson Trophy (UK team racing open championship), a 2nd at the ISAF Team Racing World Championship in 2011, and was the tactician of the ESCA overall winner at the 2017 US Sailing Lloyd Phoenix National Offshore Championship.

Amanda Gary is a rising junior at the Rivers School in Weston, Massachusetts. This is Amanda's seventh summer sailing at Pleon. She is on the 420 race team. She sailed optimists for 4 years and this is her third summer sailing 420s. Amanda likes competing in regattas and sailing in Marblehead and is looking forward to sharing her love of sailing with younger sailors. She also enjoys running and is on the varsity cross country and track teams at Rivers.


Ashley Hoguet is a rising junior at Marblehead High School where she is a member of the sailing and ski teams. She has been sailing at Pleon for 7 years, moving through the Opti and 420 classes. Last summer, she competed on the 420 Race Team and she is excited to join the Laser 2 class this summer. She also skippers her family's Rhodes 19.


Nick will be a junior at Marblehead High School next year, where he is a member of the sailing team. This is his eighth year sailing, five of which have been spent sailing optis and 420s at Pleon. He grew up in Marblehead and has been looking forward to being a JI at Pleon for as long as he can remember.
